History of the Foundation's First Capital Campaign

In 2004, the Humble ISD Education Foundation announced their first capital campaign to build an Astronomical Observatory for the citizens of southeast Texas. The 1,200 square foot building, housing several powerful telescopes, brings the stars home to our children. Through the use of specialized computer software, the night sky is viewable during the day for Humble ISD students to enhance and enrich science instruction. Additionally, the observatory is utilized by Lone Star College - Kingwood classes and for research purposes by the North Houston Astronomy Club as well as other clubs and organizations.

After three years of fundraising, the Foundation broke ground in the summer of 2008 and a grand opening was celebrated in June of 2009. "This is the most significant and I believe most impacting gift our district has ever received. It literally offers an opportunity to learn science in an innovative way, right in our back yard," said Humble Superintendent Guy Sconzo. Humble ISD is one of the few school districts in the nation to have our own observatory!

We are still raising the last few dollars needed to equip the observatory with instructional materials and supplies. The observatory will be a teaching facility for all grade levels in Humble ISD and surrounding school districts and colleges. This is your chance to help the children in your community to reach for the stars!
